About us

The Jorge Machalela Foundation (JMF) is a Mozambican organization dedicated to social transformation and sustainable development. Since its inception, JMF has focused on empowering the most vulnerable communities, regardless of ethnicity, religion, belief or nationality. Our commitment is to create a lasting and meaningful impact in the areas of education, economic empowerment, health, food security, child protection, and response to humanitarian crises.

Areas of Activity

Education and Economic Empowerment

Literacy and Professional Training Programs:

We offer literacy and professional training courses for adults and young people, preparing them for the job market and promoting local entrepreneurship.

Support for Basic and Secondary Education:

We provide school materials, build educational infrastructure and financially support children from underprivileged families, ensuring access to quality education.

Food and Nutrition Security

Support for Sustainable Agriculture:

Provision of drought-resistant seeds, training in sustainable farming techniques and distribution of agricultural kits to improve food security.

Child Nutrition Programs:

Implementation of nutritional supplement programs for children and pregnant mothers, combating malnutrition and improving the health of future generations.

Child Protection, Poverty and Inequality

Defense of Children's Rights:

Implementation of programs that ensure children’s rights, protecting them from abuse and exploitation, and guaranteeing them access to education and health.

Reducing Poverty and Inequality:

Projects that aim to reduce poverty through job creation, community development and strengthening local economic capacities.

Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

Access to Drinking Water and Basic Sanitation:

Construction of wells, water treatment systems and latrines to improve living conditions in rural communities.

Health and Hygiene Education Campaigns

Carrying out campaigns to prevent diseases and promote hygiene practices, reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases.

Inclusive Communities and Sustainable Environments

Social Inclusion Projects:

We work to integrate marginalized communities, promoting equality and combating discrimination.

Environmental Sustainability Initiatives:

We develop reforestation projects, combat deforestation and promote sustainable agricultural practices to protect the environment and guarantee the subsistence of communities.

Disaster Preparedness

Community Resilience Programs:

Empowering communities to face natural disasters, such as cyclones, droughts and floods, through training, construction of resilient infrastructure and development of emergency plans.

Rapid Disaster Response:

Implementation of immediate disaster relief actions, including distribution of food, drinking water, and hygiene kits.
